Prodigy (Khan Academy)

After a careful search on the google engine, I finally decided to choose from the Prodigy website at (https://www.prodigy.com/main-en/blog/reading-websites/) Prodigy.com. This website includes fifteen effective and
engaging online reading websites and programs that kids need. All of these fifteen websites included on this front page are effective in building children in literacy. All of the websites included on the Prodigy are useful and helpful. They provide a variety of effective strategies and methods on how to build not only literacy but other subject matters in students. Lessons included on each respective website are unique in their preparations and methods. For instance, some implement games to boost learning and some implement songs. They did all of these to accommodate all learning diversities. Teachers know that students learn in different ways and this website just kicks it off with fun activities that will benefit students in learning.

Like I mentioned, I chose Khan Academy to write about in this project. Khan Academy is found at (https://www.khanacademy.org/ela). When you type in this URL, it will take you to the front page mentioned above where the list of other websites is included. Khan Academy is listed as one of the effective websites that provides effective and engaging online reading programs for kids. The actual page for the Khan Academy can be found at (https://khanacademy.org). Khan Academy is interesting because it does not only focus on reading, but it addresses all the subject matters in education. I have used Khan Academy before in math. I never knew the other subject matters are being addressed in Khan Academy. With a deeper search in this course, I found out that Khan Academy does not limit to math only.

One thing I like about Khan Academy is the layout of its content. When you go to the link provided above, it will take you to the heart of the content of this website. On it are the list of subject matters and grade levels addressed. When you click on the subject matter, it will take you to the resources you will need for that subject matter. For example, when you click on reading and language arts, it will take you to a separate page with reading passages at a certain grade level along with vocabulary. The stories included are specified for each grade level and the main goal is to promote reading for understanding and they scaffold the reading with a list of vocabulary. It is wonderful!
